This is the greenest it has been around here this late in the summer in a very long time. A VERY long time. It is so refreshing to see grass everywhere.
We work so hard to improve our soil to increase water infiltration, but when you go through three or four years of drought, it seems like all the work you have done was for nothing. Because let’s be honest, you need water in some form to grow grass, and you need grass to be a profitable rancher. During the drought, things can seem very grim. But if you can sustain the hard times, eventually it will rain again, and the grass will turn green and grow again.
We have phases of life like this. Times in life where you feel like you are going through hell; whether that be falling on hard times, a trauma, or grief. In these times, all you can do is live through the hell. You can’t rush it, you can’t change it, you can simply do the best you can in each moment and get through it. Then one day, without meaning to, you will notice that you have climbed out of the trenches, at least somewhat. You will be able to put your feet under you again. You will be able to breathe a full breath and envision the possibility of a full life again.
So if you are in a drought in life, don’t give up. Don’t shame yourself. Just get through it one day at a time. It will rain again.
