More Is Caught Than Taught

I don’t know who said that first, but they were wise. I remind myself of this daily. I am currently raising a 3 and 5 year old, and so far from perfect at it. But one thing I am constantly striving to improve is how I model for my kids. How I spend my time. How I react to controversy. How I treat others. How I handle anger. How I handle winning and losing. How I balance work and play. There are so many things we are modeling for our children each day without realizing it. And their eyes are watching. They watch what you drink, the facial expressions you make, if you pick up that piece of trash when no one is watching, if you pet or kick the dog when you think you’re alone, if you double check the latches on the trailer, if you leave the gate open because you’ll be right back or just close it to be safe, if you laugh when someone is making fun of someone else or if you defend the underdog. They are always watching and always learning. They soak it in like a sponge. So make sure you are modeling the qualities you want them to learn. They are too precious to want anything but the best for them.
